Opel has relaunched the legendary Frontera name, this time as a smaller electric SUV to be produced in Slovakia.

The new Opel Frontera Electric offers an unusual roof capacity of 200 kg and a boot capacity of 460 litres, expandable to 1600 litres by folding the rear seats.

The interior of the new model is equipped with a 10" digital instrument panel and a 10" central touchscreen infotainment display, wireless charging for smartphones and four USB ports. Interestingly, it won't have a central touchscreen as standard, but will be replaced by a system similar to the one found in the Citroen e-C3, where your mobile phone turns into the main infotainment control unit after installing the relevant app.

Opel reports that the Frontera Electric will be available in two versions. Fully electric, and a 48V hybrid version. The exact technical specifications and the platform on which the car is based have not yet been specified by Opel.

Production of the new Opel Frontera Electric will be located at the Stellantis plant in Trnava, Slovakia.

Further details about the model, its dimensions and class remain unknown, but the design and boot volume suggest it could fall into the compact C segment. Further details will be released in the near future.
